Frequently asked questions
Why does it show 0% / “no window tonight”?
The chance is a product of four honest factors: aurora activity × clear sky × darkness × sky quality. If any one is zero, the chance is zero. The most common reasons are no real darkness (e.g. the midnight sun in northern summer, when the sun never drops far enough below the horizon) or full cloud cover. The app tells you which factor is holding the number down instead of inventing an optimistic figure.
I enabled alerts but never get one.
Basic “strong activity” alerts only fire when the geomagnetic activity is high enough to reach your latitude, so quiet weeks are silent by design. Make sure notifications are allowed for Aurora Expert in iOS Settings ▸ Notifications. Per-spot “smart alerts” (every saved location, plus a days-ahead storm watch) are part of Aurora Expert (the one-time unlock).
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
Open the unlock screen and tap Restore Purchases. Aurora Expert is a one-time, non-consumable purchase tied to your Apple ID, so it restores for free on any device signed in with the same Apple ID. If nothing restores, confirm you’re signed into the correct Apple ID under Settings ▸ [your name] ▸ Media & Purchases.
The location or forecast looks wrong.
Aurora Expert needs the “While Using the App” location permission to forecast for where you are (Settings ▸ Aurora Expert ▸ Location). Cloud cover comes from Apple WeatherKit and can differ slightly from other weather apps. You can also search for any location manually.
Where does the data come from?
Live space-weather and weather data from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, NASA (CCMC/DONKI), the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences (Hp30 index), and Apple WeatherKit. When a feed is temporarily unavailable, the app says so rather than guessing.
How do I delete my data?
Aurora Expert has no account and stores no personal data on any server. Everything (saved spots, caches, settings) lives on your device — deleting the app removes it all. If you enabled alerts, the anonymous region topic subscription stops when you disable alerts or remove the app.
